Burundi Deaf Fund

This is an opportunity to serve a deaf community of over 60,000 and help its children learn sign language and get an education in Burundi, East Africa. Burundi, besides being one of the smallest countries in Africa, is also one of the poorest with an estimated 75% of the population living below the poverty line with an annual average income below $600. Many deaf children are not able to communicate with their family and learn sign language and therefore live-in complete isolation and fear.

Your donation would help pay these children’s school fees so they can learn sign language, get an education, and communicate with family and friends. The cost to send a child to school would be about $825 per year, which includes school fees, uniforms, materials, travel, and healthcare. That is more than the yearly annual income for the average Burundian.

Any amount you are able to give towards this total would dramatically change a child’s life as well as their families. Even though the deaf tend to congregate in areas where there are deaf schools only one deaf child in five is able to attend school in Burundi. Donate today using the button below and help a child start building connections.
